Bird Club
Village Farm is home to three geese and six ducks who bring daily joy and personality to the community. By day, they roam freely through the Green Gate Orchard. Club members share the care—feeding, guiding them into their pens at sunset, and keeping their swimming pool clean. Each of them has their own distinct character. Goldie, our very first duck, seems to prefer the company of people over her feathered friends, while Karin and Pistachio are inseparable, almost always found side by side. Volunteers are invited to help assist with day-to-day care of our ducks and geese. If you are interested in learning more, feel free to reach out to Dennis Behnke at 512-797-1242! Please consider a donation to help with the cost of fencing, feed and habitat protection.

Pottery
Plans are underway to begin regular pottery classes here on the farm. The kiln has been purchased, instructor identified. We're waiting on a series of events before we can begin. The Red Container by the mailboxes must be moved behind the greenhouse. The developer placed the pad for the container in the wrong place. That must be rectified. When the container is moved, tools for the tool shed can move to the Red Container and the toolshed can have proper electric run and we can install the kiln. Off we'll go. We still need to raise money for potting wheels. We appreciate any donations. Thank you.

Blue Zone
Did you know Blue Zones are the places in the world where people live the longest and feel their best? They focus on eating primarily plant-based foods, moving naturally throughout the day, and staying connected with their community. We’ve been bringing those ideas to life right here in our neighborhood! From potlucks and plant-based cooking classes to yoga sessions, silent disco walks, farm work, and even invitations for kayaking outings, we’ve been finding fun ways to stay active and eat well. And our movie nights, arts and crafts evenings, and game nights are helping us build a close-knit community that supports everyone’s well-being. Little by little, we’re creating a neighborhood that feels good to live in—for the long haul! Stay tuned for more events coming your way soon and if you want to get involved with helping these efforts, please get in touch with Lisa Apfelberg at lisa.apfelberg@gmail.com.

Garden Club
Green Gate Farms and several Village Farm residents established the Garden Club in March 2021. The Club assumed stewardship of the growing areas in and around our tiny home community. Residents have volunteered countless hours to install and maintain beautiful and productive areas around their homes, in common areas, the orchard, and in raised garden beds. Many of our Garden Club members are accomplished growers who generously share their skills (and seeds) with beginners. Despite numerous obstacles, these leaders have persisted in their mission to add beauty and sustainability to their community. Meeting topics can include: Bergstrom Farmhouse landscape planning design and budgeting Community Raised Beds planting, care and harvesting, Container gardening Home landscaping advocacy and home tours Mushroom Growing Planting and pruning fruit trees Planting trees around the community The Garden Club comes together monthly to discuss and learn, tour and plan. Anyone is welcome to join in. No experience necessary. Monthly meetings, which often feature guest speakers, are open to all and held on the farm on second Wednesdays, 5:30-7:00 PM.
