Wrap water pipes AND LEVER (water shut off valve). No need to wrap gas lines/pipes.

Wrap any exposed water heater pipes (water pipes only; no need to wrap the gas line/pipes

Remove hose and wrap or cover faucet

Drip BOTH hot and cold water at bathroom and kitchen sinks (a) Drip for 25-32 degree weather; (b) Stream for lower than 25 degree weather

Open kitchen sink and bathroom cabinet doors

Open laundry door and washing machine door

Run ceiling fans on low speed in clockwise rotation to blow warm air downward

Change split units to “Freeze Guard” or similar mode. Check owners manual for more info. The purpose is to keep your external unit rotating rather than cycling off and stopping spinning, which might make it susceptible to freezing. For Gree units: In heat mode, press “Temp” + “Clock” simultaneously

Food, hot cocoa, lots of Baileys

Gas up the car

Ice chest - if power goes out, you can store food outside in the snow

Sand or salt to de-ice porch and steps

Wrap all exposed water pipes with…

1. Foam insulation, then

2. Towels, then

3. Plastic bags or plastic sheet wrap, then

4. Duct tape to secure all the wrap
