Reserving the Farmhouse
The heart and soul of Village Farm Austin is Green Gate Farm, with its historic barn (the last original barn in Travis County) and the Bergstrom Family Farmhouse, which is where we gather for parties and events. The farmhouse has been updated with modern air conditioning, appliances, and plumbing, all while preserving the original windows, woodwork, and antique character. By providing us a place to gather, play, and eat, this graceful building is the essential key to making this village a real community for all of us.
Use your imagination to make full use of this space! At Village Farm, we are already holding monthly game nights, craft clubs, cooking classes, Friendsgivings, birthday parties, club meetings, and more. Residents also hold public meetings and meetups that you may join, such as for travel groups, vegan enthusiasts, and Death Cafe.
Reservations — Wonderfully, the farmhouse is not rented out for profit by the resort but is dedicated to use by VF residents, based on first-come-first-served reservations. When you reserve the farmhouse, you get the entire building during your time slot. The process is currently this:
Verify that the day and time that you want for your activity is available: https://villagefarmaustin.com/book-the-farmhouse
Email our calendar volunteer, Lisa (@lisa.apfelberg), with your event details: day, time, duration, number of attendees, event name (if open to all of us), and your full name and contact info: Email: lisa.apfelberg@gmail.com Text: (512) 560-5360
Ask Lisa for any secure information that you need, such as the front door code or the wifi password (important: do not share these with non-residents).
If Village Farm neighbors are invited to your event, post it to our Facebook private group or Messenger chat (or, if you have no access, ask Lisa to do this for you).
Kitchen — The kitchen has many essentials for cooking and meal events, but, before a meal event, take the time to visit the farmhouse to see what you might need to bring. You are welcome to use the fridge temporarily and to leave items that can’t spoil, such as extra canned beverages. The rule of thumb is to return it to how you found it.
Bathrooms — There are two bathrooms: one in the center of the house, and one behind the kitchen, through the pantry. If paper or soap supplies can’t be found in cabinets or the pantry, contact the resort office: 512-926-8984.
Clean up — Don’t leave a mess for your neighbor! The office sends cleaners on a set schedule, not after events. Therefore, it’s critical for hygiene that we remove food and trash from the farmhouse. Take the garbage and recycling to the dumpsters (on the resort side), so we don’t have smells or bugs for the next person.
Checklist after your event:
- Are all surfaces cleared and wiped down?
- Is the furniture returned to how you found it?
- Has the dishwasher been loaded and turned on?
- Has the garbage been bagged and removed?
- Has your food been removed from the fridge?
- Is the thermostat turned back up/down to where you found it?
- Are all lights and fans off, except for the front porch light?
- Is the door keypad set back to locked?
